Support
qot is made by one person. Questions and bug reports are welcome.
Email contact@abstractsyntax.llc. Say which client (terminal, web app, iPhone), what you did, and what you expected to happen. For
the terminal, qot status prints the version and server and never shows anything secret.
Bugs and ideas can also go on GitHub.
Every signed-in device has all of your notes, so the export comes from the device, not the server. In the terminal:
$ qot export > notes.json
That is every note as JSON, with its id, when it was created, and its text.
In the web app, open the account menu and choose Delete account. In the terminal, signed in, run the command. Either way, type your email to confirm.
$ qot delete-account
That deletes your account and everything the server holds for it: your email address, your synced notes and your sign-ins. Notes already on your devices stay there until you delete them or the app. Export first if you want a copy.
Common questions
- I took a note offline. Is it lost?
- No. Every note is saved on the device first. The terminal prints (not synced: …) when it couldn't reach the server, and the note goes up with the next command or the next qot sync. The web app syncs when the connection comes back.
- The sign-in email didn't arrive.
- Check spam for a message from mail.quantumofthought.com. The link is good for 15 minutes; after that, start again. To keep the inbox safe, one address can start only a few sign-ins an hour.
- Why do I have to type a code from the screen?
- So that opening the link signs nobody in. If someone starts a sign-in with your address, or a mail scanner opens the link, nothing happens until the code from the device that asked is typed in. The code is never in the email.
- How do I sign out?
- qot logout in the terminal, or the account menu in the web app. Signing out forgets the account on that device; its notes stay on it.
- Can I run my own server?
- Yes. The server is open source in the same repository. Point the terminal at it with qot login you@example.com --server https://your.server.
